Wedding Accessories You’ll Wear Again

One of the most exciting parts of planning a wedding is the bridal shopping trips. Once you’ve got your dress there’s a lot you’ll need to go with it. Shoes, obviously, but also hair accessories, a jacket (for winter brides), underwear, jewellery and even a bag. Whilst these shopping trips fill all brides with excitement at the prospect of heading into luxury boutiques and splurging, when it came to my turn the price of specific wedding accessories made me think twice.

Yes, it’s the most important day of your life, and yes, you want to feel a million bucks, but do you really need to spend that much on things you may never wear again? My advice to all brides is to think about what you’re buying and find wedding accessories that not only will work with your dress but you’ll continue to wear. Not only are you making the cost per wear a bit more justifiable but you’re purchasing something special that will always remind you of your wedding day. Here are my top tips for wedding accessories you’ll wear again and again…

The Shoes

Strappy sandals in a metallic or nude are much more versatile than white satin. Take them on your honeymoon to wear with fancy dresses, re-wear them to a friend’s wedding or even dress up with jeans for dinner. I actually found when shopping for shoes that bridal styles were quite limited and picking a pair of designer shoes with embellishment was much more fun!

The Jewellery

The jewellery you wear on your wedding day is dependent on your dress and hair. There’s no rule to say you need to wear anything, in fact, some religious sects request that the bride is jewellery free for the duration of the ceremony. If you do choose to wear something, this is a chance to treat yourself to something special. Bear in mind you don’t want it to outshine your ring. A simple, elegant pair of earrings is usually the best choice for wedding jewellery.

The Jacket

If you’re getting married in winter you’re going to need something to keep you from catching pneumonia on the big day. Needless to say, a white jacket isn’t that useful for any day bar your wedding day so why not go for something dramatic in a darker colour? A faux-fur or feather cape is perfect for adding glamour to your wedding dress and any other evening gown you wear afterwards.

The Bag

This needs to be small, after all what could you possibly need on your wedding day! Chances are someone from your wedding party will carry it for you on the day. My advice is to leave it under your chair so if you do need to slip off to top up your lippy you’ve got it all to hand.

Don’t forget these accessories are also a chance to add in your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. If you’re brave enough a bright blue shoe is so eye-catching and will make for some amazing photos, and there’s nothing more special than a piece of jewellery borrowed from a family member to set the tone of your wedding day.

Whatever you choose, make sure to enjoy the process of picking wedding accessories as much as the dress. It’s your day and every detail should be as personal as it can possibly be.
